How to do it
Approach the wall in controlled freestyle. Initiate the flip at a distance that lets the feet reach the wall without an extra half-stroke; push off in streamline, then restart the kick and freestyle while you still carry speed.
Key cues
- Keep a steady approach through the final stroke.
- Bring the knees in compactly during the rotation.
- Place the feet high enough to push along the line of travel.
- Restart swimming before push-off speed is lost.
Common mistakes
- Slowing dramatically before the wall.
- Adding an extra half-stroke before flipping.
- Pushing off with the body out of line.
- Waiting until nearly stopped before the first stroke.
Practice format
8 repetitions from 5 to 7 m before the wall to 7 to 10 m after it, with full recovery on the return.

Safety
Work in a clear lane and check pool depth and local rules before repeated turn practice.
