How to do it
Start on your side with the lower arm extended forward and the upper arm near the thigh. Take about six relaxed kicks, use one freestyle stroke to rotate to the opposite side, then settle into the new position. Breathe when needed without lifting the head.
Key cues
- Keep the head aligned with the spine.
- Rotate from the torso, not only with the arm.
- Keep the lead arm in line with the shoulder.
- Fins can help stabilize the drill, but they should not replace balance.
Common mistakes
- Flattening completely onto the stomach between switches.
- Crossing the lead arm in front of the head.
- Kicking very hard instead of finding balance.
Practice format
6 × 25 m alternating sides with 20 s rest; finish with 2 × 50 m full freestyle while keeping the same rotation.
