How to do it
Maintain a light, continuous flutter kick. Perform the breaststroke pull, breathe naturally during the insweep, then send the hands forward promptly before the next pull. The focus is the arm action, not leg power.
Key cues
- Keep the flutter kick light and steady.
- Keep the pull compact in front of the shoulders.
- Send the hands forward promptly.
- Keep the body horizontal instead of rising too high.
Common mistakes
- Kicking hard enough to hide the arm work.
- Pulling the elbows far behind the torso.
- Pausing for a long time under the chest.
- Lifting the head excessively to breathe.
Practice format
6 × 25 m controlled with 20 s rest, then 4 × 25 m full breaststroke while keeping a quick arm recovery.
